If you are a voice over artist you most certainly know that one of the most misguided ideas about being successful in the industry is that many people think that it is necessary to alter the voice to achieve a desired effect.
Usually the desired voice effects are created in the mind and are not necessarily indicated in a script.
There will definitely be times when a specific type of voice is required for a character, however this does not mean that you have to force yourself to the point of sounding unnatural.
Trust in yourself and in your voice. Trust in your training and in your ability to interpret a script without trying to “sound” as what you think you should sound.
If you are trying too hard to achieve an effect, it means that you are coming out of your naturalness.
